The thing is, the popularity of a political leader is not directly related to their ability to govern. Perhaps John Tsang is more popular, but how many have spent time reading his platform? And no matter how much one dislikes Carrie Lam, what is her platform? Relying on the media to dictate who to vote for, is effectively giving up one's claim to individual agency. It is to surrender one's ability to think as an independent, as opposed to going with the flow.

The question is not 'who is the bad guy' but how to make the best of what is available.

Granted, one thing we should be really glad for this year's election is the lack of scandals, despite presuming all those media is very willing to find one (they live with those!).

Think about it, all citizen in those democratic countries should really be glad for this.

Were we are able to pick a CE, it is a difficult choice actually, particularly if most people don't bother reading candidate's platforms and rely on the media. Both are definitely capable candidates. Just that those so-called democrats want to discredit Carrie just because she was preferred by Beijing. That's the thing that make me sad.

There's not much point of universal suffrage, if it just becomes a popularity contest. Especially when people tend to want to skip the hard work of reading the running platforms, and instead listen to the radio hosts they deemed to be 'trustworthy'. Thing is the media panders to the whims of its subscribers. Hosts say what people want to hear as opposed to what actually is the case.

The so-called democrats basically frame themselves as the veto of legco. In fact this was one of their running platforms. It has little to do with actual lives, any more than to prolong their lifespan in legco on borrowed time.

The so called 'middle' ground, as often used to describe the likes of Ronny Tong, is confused with 'practicality'. Especially when politics is about achieving a compromise between varied interests.

Hong Kong is split into 2 groups that are pushing further and further apart.
One group blindly says yes to whatever the PRC & HK governments say, and the other says no.

Hong Kong is a city with median income of $15,000 among the work force, and majority of those people face no future growth or prospect.
We can see a 1-room apartment selling for over $30,000 per sq ft with housing price never coming down.
Public housing threshold and construction speed are too slow to accommodate those in need.

Housing problem is just one out of many problems in Hong Kong.
I'm sure the form of the government is not the sole cause of these problems, but it's definitely the easiest target.
What is better to appeal to people than a change of government when there is a huge population of discontent people.

I do not think Hong Kong people need democracy.
But if different social and financial problems remain unresolved by the government, this cry for democracy will only grow stronger lol

Hong Kong doesn't need democracy, Hong Kong needs land for local housing.
