| Google formed Alphabet Inc. to house all of its current operating units under the new holding company. The new conglomerate will own all of Google's core business (gmail, apps, maps, youtube etc) and its investment and project arms. Announcement: https://abc.xyz/ Filing: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1288776/000128877615000039/a20150810form8-k.htm From an operational standpoint, it sounds like a way to protect the google brand value as the company continues to explore new investments/developments; on the other end, from a financial perspective, I can pretty much see that the holding company being owned by another shell holding company based in one of those tax haven like Luxembourg, Cayman Islands, or Bermuda etc. On the tech side, I'll leave it to the tech savvy folks to comment. |
