呢句有兩個verb...were 同 gave
所以最正確應該係用that或which去將兩句連起來

而giving就係gerand...將verb轉成noun form, 令文法正確。

而本來這一句應該是不對的，不過因為方便，
有時候也有人將 '，' 當成另開新句。

subject + verb + object

a position gave them both extra privileges and responsibilities.

subject + verb + object

應該沒有錯, 為何是兩個 verb??

一句sentence只能有一個main clause，即subject + verb + object

All 25 women were the first born in their families, a position gave them both extra privileges and responsibilities.

正因為這句有兩個main clause所以就要將a position gave改成 a position that gave 或 a position giving both extra privileges and responsibilities.
