This was a sequel to "Aren't the Kids Lovely?" ("Er Nu Jing") (1953).

Now that the Yan children had grown up, each of them had their own problems. The eldest daughter Da Ming became a teacher and fell in love with her colleague Zheng Minqiang. Surprisingly, Zheng's frequent visits to the Yan family prompted Da Ming's sister San Mao to think that he was fond of her.

Er Mao, the second child, became an engineer trainee in a factory. One day he met an old neighbour Lucy Chen and fell in love with her almost immediately. Lucy Chen was a material girl who always asked Er Mao to accompany her to expensive dinners and luxurious balls. As a poor young man Er Mao was often the target of scoff of Lucy's friends. When Lucy's cousin returned to Hong Kong from abroad, she wasted no time to give Er Mao the cold shoulder. He was then left in despair with a broken heart.

The fourth child Si Niu, who was notorious for his quick-temper, became a basketball player. He fell in love with a poor but beautiful girl A Xiang, who earned a living by doing other's laundry. But he never dared to tell A Xiang how much he loved her. Although his younger brother Hu Er always laughed at him he also helped him in several occasions. But Si Niu was too shy to succeed.

One day, Si Niu was going to play in a basketball match and asked Hu Er to invite A Xiang to watch him playing. Hu Er then wrote a love letter to A Xiang on his brother's behalf. However, the letter was found by their father in advance. As Si Niu was playing too hard to show off his skills in front of A Xiang, he hurt his arm in the match. When home, his father taught him a lesson.

Later, the Yan parents gave their support and guidance in love affairs. Amidst the New Year happiness Da Ming and Zheng announced their marriage.
