This was an adaptation of "Rescue from the Dust Storm" by Guan Hanqing (1220-1300 AD).

Songstress Song Yinzhang was about to marry a dandy Zhou She. Her colleague Zhao Paner warned that Zhou could never be a good husband and Song should withdraw. But Song would not listen to her. Zhao was irritated and said she would never offer Song any help, not matter how bad her situation would be.

Soon after their marriage, Zhao's words came true. Song was abused by Zhou and secretly wrote to Zhao for help. Out of sympathy and friendship, Zhao went to snare Zhou with honeyed words and promised to marry him. Zhou wrote a divorce letter almost immediately to show his sincerity and left to prepare for the wedding. At the same time, Song secretly left his house. Only when Zhou tried to receive his bride did he realise he had been cheated. Soon he was able to get hold of Zhao and Song, tore the divorce letter into pieces and sent them to the magistrate. However, Zhao was clever enough to have passed the original copy to a scholar An Xiushi, who had been secretly fond of Song for a long time. An submitted the original divorce letter to the magistrate and therefore Zhou failed to sue. Finally An managed to marry Song.
