Songstress Cai Shaolan came from Macau to earn a living in Hong Kong. With the help of a good friend Zi Juan, she rented a room in an old apartment. On the day she moved in, the noises she made woke a man, Cao Guoguang, living in the next room. He entered into a fierce quarrel with Zi Juan, who was then stopped by Cai. But Cai was impressed how bad-tempered Cao was.

Since she moved in, Cai had been quarrelling with Cao nearly night and day, although they never knew each other's face.

One day, Cai had her purse stolen by a pickpocket on the bus. By coincidence Cao was also on the bus and stopped the thief. Without knowing each other's face, Cai was grateful to Cao and they fell in love with each other. Not until the eve of their wedding did they recognise that they had been quarrelling for months.

A year later, they had a son but never stopped quarrelling over trivial matters.

One day, Cai was complaining that Cao used up the money she had intended to remit to her mother. They argued fiercely and Cai returned to sing in a nightclub, leaving their son unattended. Cao then brought the child with him to work, but was then sacked. Later Lao Liu introduced him to become a musician in the same nightclub where Cai was singing, but got increasingly envious seeing men chasing after his wife and asked for divorce. The couple finally managed to have a reunion with the help of Zi Juan and Lao Liu.
