Chen Junmai, Liu San and Hua Yizhi were all dancers in the Wan Hua Troupe. They had been unemployed for quite some time and Chen applied for the position of a driver for one of the richest woman in town, Mei Qianru. He was late on the first day and was dismissed immediately. For some reason, the troupe owner Guo Weide believed Chen was the boyfriend of Mei and forced him to get sponsorship from Mei.

Rumours that Chen and Mei were lovers finally ran into Mei's ears. Outrageous and annoyed, Mei pretended to be a journalist and interviewed Chen, wishing to see what Chen looked like. Chen never knew she was Mei and told her everything. Mei then left without telling him the truth.

When home, Mei's aunts and uncles came to complain about Mei's love affair. Mei tried hard to explain but they would not listen. She then left to date with Chen. Seeing that she danced well, Chen referred her to work in a troupe.

The following day Mei made a trick to see if Chen was in love with her. She asked an accountant of her company to take her seat and forced Chen to marry her. Chen firmly refused, saying that he was in love with a journalist called Ma, who was, in effect, Mei herself. Mei listened to their conversation next door and was very much delighted.

Finally, Mei agreed to sponsor a large sum of money to Guo's troupe. She was also invited to become the main actress in the performances.
