Fang Mei was never good in the eyes of her mother-in-law. The accidental death of her
husband pushed her into an even more difficult position. Rumours ran that she had an
affair with her best friend Liu Shijun, who often visited her and helped her find a job.
Her sister-in-law Shen Wenjuan was engaged to Zhang Dawei, a playboy who had been
eyeing the Shen family's wealth and Fang's beauty. Fang managed to escape from his
harassment, and tried to convince Shen that Zhang was not a good match for her. Not
surprisingly, Shen thought it was Fang who wanted to marry Zhang.
Zhang's plot was later uncovered and Fang was found pregnant. The Shen family tried to improve their relations with Fang, but it was too late. Fang was determined to lead a new life and left without hesitation.
