In July 1958, You Min joined Motion Picture &
General Investments Limited (MP&GI) and made her first award-winning movie
"Her Tender Heart". She became the Best
Actress at the sixth Asian Film Festival held in Kuala Lumpur.
In 1960, You Min won the Best Actress award
for the second time at the seventh Asian Film Festival in Tokyo for her
outstanding performance in "All in the Family".

You Min appeared on the magazine covers in Japan after the unprecedented success of "A Night in Hong Kong".

In 1961, the Japanese Toho Film Production
Limited joined hands with MP&GI to produce "A
Night in Hong Kong". You Min was invited to be the leading actress.
Toho had reportedly spent 25 million yen on promotion for You Min.
"A Night in Hong Kong" was a great
hit among the Japanese audience for three months, smashing all box
office records. You Min then emerged as the most popular expatriate
actress and was reputed to be "the Pearl of Hong Kong".

Due to a financial dispute with her
mother You Min was summoned to a court hearing in February 1962. She
finally won the case.
In October 1962, You Min became the
Best Actress at the first Golden Horse Award presentation in Taiwan for
her role in "Sun, Moon and Star".
She was also elected the champion among "The Top Ten Favourite Movie
Stars" in an poll organised by the renowned Japanese newspaper Asahi
Shimbun.
